Buildings insulated with SPF exhibit very good fire performance. This is due to the thermosetting nature of rigid polyurethane (the material chars when subjected to fire) and its high thermal stability.
For many projects, it should be possible to install SPF (which is a combustible material), but it is obviously the responsibility of the designers, manufacturers and installers to check the relevant national regulations.
It is important to emphasise that the best way to ensure the fire safety of buildings is to follow the 7 layers of the fire safety concept developed by the MBA (Modern Building Alliance) which have also been transposed into the B.I.O. framework (Building, Installation and Organisational requirements). This is true for any building, whether it is a renovation or a new project.

This website, dedicated specifically to Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF), aims to promote the unique benefits of SPF application in the construction sector and has the ambition to become the reference in the EU SPF industry by providing guidance to ensure quality and safe SPF application throughout Europe.
